Ali T. Muhammad, Chair of the Spirit of Beacon Committee and Board Member for the past 4 years, announced to Beacon’s City Council the theme and agenda of the 48th year of the Spirit of Beacon Day: “This year we're focused on the youth. Every year the spirit of Beacon Day is focused in the spirit of youth development, youth growth. Forty eight years ago when they started this, we know that there was a lot of tension in this community. People came together to ease that tension.” Crediting inspiration to Whitney Houston’s song, the theme is: “Children Are The Future; Let Them Lead The Way.”
Back by request of Mr. Soltish, principal of Rombout Middle School, the Float Contest returns with judges. Feel no pressure - the most important thing the participation of the kids, parents and school teachers who make this all happen.
New elements are coming to this year’s Spirit of Beacon Day. There will be a youth-focused area with inflatables, and on-demand screenprinting. Joker Ink is a sponsor this year. Several people will be honored, which will start at 11:30am so that people have time to explore the vendor tables and get ready for the parade.
Vendor tables open at 11am and go until 5pm with music on the stage. Several new vendors and sponsors have signed on this year, and we have opened it up to Main Street businesses who have storefronts on within the vendor coordinator.
We look forward to seeing you!
