Application For Parade Participants

2023 Application Is Below - Scroll Down!

All parade applications will be reviewed by the Spirit of Beacon Day Committee. If accepted, your group will be assigned a number and added to our email list for ongoing communication about the day and where your group will be instructed to line up. The parade lines up on Wolcott Avenue, and marches/rolls down Main Street, ending at Tioranda Avenue. Bring plenty of water. The last week of September is usually hot. Contact Us with any questions.

Deadline: September 15th, 2023. DON’T DELAY. If you are accepted, you will be notified. We encourage many different groups from Beacon to participate. Even different after-school clubs in the schools. This is a great way to show the community what is available to them.

A few things to know before submitting:

  • Beacon Organizations: Only Beacon-based organizations, groups and businesses can participate in the parade, with the exception of first responders for mutual aid.

  • Sirens: First responders from other municipalities are welcome to join us to march. Beacon’s Fire Chief Gary VanVoorhis asks that you not sound your horns at all. Flashing your lights is good, he says, but the sirens are too loud for the children. Beacon’s City Administrator Chris White agrees, stating that the public should hear the sirens only if there is an emergency, so that the public can know about an emergency.

  • No Politicking: Originally since 1977, the Spirit of Beacon Day included in its mission that there would be no “politicking” in the parade. Please not passing out of pamphlets, pins, marketing materials, etc.

  • Elected Politicians: Can march together as a group.

  • Advocacy: Organized groups who do advocate and demonstrate for various causes can march, but this is not the time to demonstrate for a specific cause. Use the opportunity to show what you do and how to reach you to get involved.

  • Business Participation: Businesses can participate in the parade. Traditionally it has been organizations only, but we need to show the love for our businesses, since they deal with young people and the public at large on a daily basis on the front lines.
