What is the Spirit of Beacon Day?
The Spirit of Beacon Day is an annual Parade and Main Street Festival held on the last Sunday of September. It has been running since 1977 and the mission of its original founders was “A day to bring the City together, especially the children and youth....the community should get to know one another better, learn to know what each other likes in conversation, feelings, entertainment, education and food.”

When is the Spirit of Beacon Day this year?
Sunday, September 30th, rain date Oct 7th. Street festival 12pm – 4pm, parade runs 1pm-2pm

What is the theme of this year's event?
The theme that has been selected for this year is "Celebrating Unity"

Who organizes and runs the Spirit of Beacon Day?
The event is organized and run entirely by a volunteer committee, and funded by donations from local citizens and businesses. It is not run by the City of Beacon, however the City provides the support of the police, fire and highway department on the day of the parade.

What is the history / origin of the Spirit of Beacon Day?

I heard there is a new committee for the Spirit of Beacon, who is the new committee?
The new committee for 2018 are local volunteers from across the community. They are working closely with the previous committee (who stepped down last year) to learn how the parade was run in the past, with the goal to make the transition smooth and carry the torch forward.

What will the donation and fundrasing money go towards?
Donations will go towards running the event – for promotions, banner,  bands / entertainment, school float contributions, nonprofit insurance and more. The Spirit of Beacon Day is funded entirely by donations from the local community, it is not paid for by the City of Beacon. Thank you for your support !

What can we expect for Spirit of Beacon Day in 2018?
Check out the latest Newsletter. The Street Festival will start at 12 noon on Main St with tables and entertainment. At 1pm. the Parade will march from City Hall to the Howland Cultural Center. When the Parade ends, the Street Festival with entertainment continues until 4pm.
New additions for 2018 will include: a designated children’s area with activities, an exhibit of Spirit of Beacon photographs at the Library, music and entertainment in various locations along Main Street throughout the day, and a coupon book of “special deals” from Main Street businesses.

Who can register for a table at the event?
Local Non Profits, community groups, schools, churches and Main Street businesses. Space is limited : the non profit groups get registered first, (since this has been the tradition), and additional spaces will be available to Main Street businesses.

What is the table registration process?

Who marches in the Parade?
Local schools, churches, not for profit organizations, veterans, community groups, local businesses, Beacon’s City Council and First Responders.

What are the General Rules and Guidelines for the event?
1) This is a family friendly community event.
2) No items will be distributed from any float or vehicle.
3) Please, no politicking for persons or parties and no pamphleteering.
4) No cycling or skateboarding, for everyone’s safety.
5) On the APPROACH OF AN EMERGENCY VEHICLE, all marchers and floats will give way and MOVE TO THE RIGHT as quickly as possible.
